Mary Fries Ryan, 98, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Bethany Village, where she had resided the past several years.
She was born April 15, 1927 on the family farm in Aldenville to Arthur and Reba (Fitze) Fries.
Mary was blessed with three proud and protective brothers, William, Robert, and Karl.
After graduating from Waymart High School, Mary attended Wayne Commercial School in Honesdale. She later worked at a local law firm, and Wayne Memorial Hospital before settling into a long career with the Wayne County Conservation Office.
She married the love of her life, Robert L. Ryan on November 20, 1954. Together, they enjoyed a full life which included cruising, and wintering in Florida.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, husband, and brothers. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who will miss her very much.
Mary was an extraordinary woman. She was confident, adventurous, vibrant, and caring beyond words. You could always count on "Aunt Mary" for advice and a listening ear. She would never hesitate to give you her honest opinion, whether you liked it or not; and this made her even more special.
Her family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the extraordinary caring staff of Bethany Village and to the compassionate staff of Wayne Memorial Hospice.
In accordance with her wishes, funeral services will be private, and held at a later date.
Interment will be private in the Clinton Center Cemetery.
