Mary Virginia (Hunt) Shelnutt Wilson, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at her daughter's residence. Services celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory, with interment immediately following at Perry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, November 29, 2025 starting at 1:00pm. Elders Dan Bryant and Gary Hall will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in Mary's honor. Mary was born on April 14, 1938, in Kathleen, GA, to the late Elder George Riley Hunt, Sr., and the late Lilla (Greene) Hunt. She dedicated her life to serving the Lord and caring for her family, in fact Mary dedicated fifty-one years to caring for her paraplegic son, David Shelnutt. Raised in the Primitive Baptist faith, she traveled to various places as her father preached, and Beaver Creek Primitive Baptist Church always remained her home church. Mary found joy in cooking and in the time she spent with her loved ones. Her beloved cat, Sheba, held a special place in her heart. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Lawrence Shelnutt and Marion T. Wilson; her son, David Shelnutt; and her siblings, Allen Hunt, Marion Hunt, and Frances Hunt. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Danny Shelnutt (Jennifer) of Kathleen, GA; Tommy Shelnutt (Michelle) of Kathleen, GA, Connie Germundsen of Kathleen, GA, David Wilson (Becky) of Bonham, TX, Randy Wilson (Tami) of Perry, GA, and Denise Wilson of Valdosta, GA; nineteen grandchildren, which includes six biological grandchildren: Paige, Haley, Monroe, Hunter, Nicholas, and Chandler; twenty-seven great grandchildren, one being her biological grandchild: Khloe; six great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, George Riley Hunt, Jr., of Perry, GA. With honor, Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with the arrangements.
