Mary Brehm Smith

Mary Brehm Smith, age 97 of Gloucester, died on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. Mary was born in Newport News, VA on May 23, 1928 to the late Charles and Anges Huges Tench. Mary was a graduate of St. Vincent Catholic High School and Hampton Roads Business College. She worked as a secretary at Langley Air Force Base. Mary was a faithful member of St. Therese Catholic Church here in Gloucester and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hampton. She was a member of Hampton Women's Club and Northampton Lady Lions Club and volunteered at the Gloucester Visitor's Center. She is survived by her husband, Paul "Bill" Smith, daughters Paula Bode (Mike) and Mary Homen, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Church of St. Therese Catholic Church on Friday, December 12, 2025 from 11:00 – 11:45 am, with a funeral mass to begin at noon, officiated by Father Gregory Kandt. The interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park – 2700 Parish Ave, Newport News, VA 23607. Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home.
