Dodge City - Mary M. Smith, 83, died January 15, 2026 at her home in Dodge City. She was born on February 27, 1942 at Spearville, Kansas the daughter of Patrick James and Mary Bernice (Tully) Slattery.
She married Russell Smith on July 27, 1963 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dodge City, he preceded her in death on May 27, 2024. She loved reading and spending time with her family, her church family and the Wright community. Mary was a very active member along with Russ in the Kansas State Firefighters Association and all of his endeavors as well.
She was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church of Wright.
She is survived by one son Shane Smith and Cindi of Wright; two daughters Susan Ojuko and husband Ayotunde of Dodge City; Shawna Topor and husband Marty of Eagle, Colorado. She is also survived by her grandchildren Trenton Haas, Treven Haas, Kory Haas, Sophie Topor, Jake Topor, Jillian Gillion, Kirsten Click, Shawna Lance, Chasity Dougherty, Heather Dougherty, Ashley Martinez, Trey Weve, Caitlyn Weve, Beau Doughtery, Johnathon Gillion and her great grandchildren Owen Click, Taylor Click and Austin Click. She is also survived by her four sisters Pat Hornung and husband Carl of Flower Mound, Texas, Rose Ann Swinger and husband Earl of Edmond, Oklahoma, Sandy Montgomery and husband Rex of Yukon, Oklahoma, Betty Burgess and husband Curt of Frisco, Texas and sister-in-law Kenna Slattery of Dodge City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers James Slattery, Charlie Slattery, one sister Ellen Gall, one daughter-in-law Debbie Smith and five nephews Cody Wilcoxen, Wade Gall, Jimmy Slattery, Adam Hornung and Mark Slattery.
Memorial Mass will be held at St. Andrews Catholic Church on Thursday January 22, 2026 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Ted Stoecklein presiding. Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Wright, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at St. Andrew's Cemetery in Wright. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to St. Andrews Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
