Mary Snyder of Neenah gently passed away on Monday morning, December 4, surrounded by the love of her husband and her children.
Mary grew up on a farm at the end of a lane next to a golf course. The memories she shared of her parents Lillian and Herbert and the childhood they created for her and her sisters were magical. Mary met Cy, the love of her life, one summer when they were both home waiting for assignments; he as an officer in the Navy and she as an airline stewardess. Mary also held a teaching degree and taught in Minnesota and California. We all enjoyed the stories she recalled of meeting our Dad and their life together over the next sixty-five plus years.
Mary and Cy welcomed a family of five children. Cy will tell you Mary was the heart and soul of their family. Together they provided a home filled with love, kindness and a bit of chaos. She enjoyed every minute of being our Mom. Her next treasure in life was being a grandmother. She was Nonnie to eleven grandchildren, and further gifted with eight great-grandchildren, all of whom were able to experience her loving heart. Her love knew no bounds. It didn't stop at our family – she made others her family, too. She was a Mom to many.
Mary and Cy were quite the team. Aside from their family, they had loads of friends, lots of fun, and shared more love and laughter than most people could ever hope for. In her final days she remarked repeatedly what an amazingly happy life she enjoyed, and how much she hated to leave it.
Mary always had sage advice for anyone who needed it (and sometimes even for those who didn't ask for it), and with this in mind we share her last thoughts. It's all so simple. Be happy. Be happy and appreciate every day because it all goes so fast. Too fast. She was amazed – even at her age – that it was over. And so let that be part of her legacy. Squeeze your loved ones a bit tighter, laugh a little harder, smile a bit more easily, and appreciate your life a bit more deeply.
Mary is survived by her husband Cy and children Lori (Steve) Engel and their children Dustin, Alex and Jessica; Mike (Debbie) Snyder and their children Kaitlyn and Michael; Marc Snyder and his children Sam and Willem; Sandi (Rick) Bergstrom; Kiki (Kyle) McMillan and their children Max, Dominic, Oliver and George; and, her great-grandchildren. Also surviving Mary are her sister Peggy, and many nephews and nieces.
Mary joins her parents, Cy's parents, her sisters Ann and Norma, and daughter-in-law Kristle on her journey.
