In Boston, Mary Ellen Sousa, age 75, passed away at Tufts N.E. Medical Center on July 9, 2024 following a brief illness. Mary Ellen was the wife of the late Brian Sousa Sr. and the mother of the late Brian J. Sousa Jr... She was born in Taunton, the daughter of the late William J. Donnelly and Meredith (Potter) Donnelly. Mary Ellen had been a lifetime resident of Taunton. She was educated at St. Mary's grammar school and a graduate of Taunton High School. She then attended and graduated from the LeBaron Hairdressing Academy in Brockton. Mary Ellen then worked as a beautician in Taunton until her passing. She enjoyed her work and the relationships that developed from it. Mary Ellen cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and family. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her beloved son Brian J. Sousa Jr. and leaves her daughter in law Brenda Florio-Sousa, and her two loving grandchildren Jack Florio-Sousa, U.S. Army Specialist, and Matthew Florio-Sousa of Walpole. She also leaves her siblings; William Donnelly and his wife Sandra of Raynham, and Susan Duarte and her husband Augustine of FL, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral visiting hours will be held at the O'Keefe Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Tuesday, July 16th from 5-7 pm. Funeral mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Taunton on Wednesday, July 17th at 11 am. Burial will be at a later date in the family lot in St. Francis Cemetery in Taunton..
