Mary Anne Steinmetz (née Sheehan), age 67, a longtime resident of Naperville, IL, passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on August 28, 1957, in Chicago, IL, Mary Anne was the cherished daughter of William T. and Anne (née Roche) Sheehan, who preceded her in death. Rooted in the warmth of a close Irish upbringing, she carried with her a lifelong gift for connection.
Her greatest joy was the love she shared with those closest to her - her devoted husband and best friend of 39 years, Dr. Stephen P. Steinmetz; her cherished children, Julie (Charles) Goudie of Naperville and Michael (Isabelle) Steinmetz of Denver, CO; and her adored granddaughters, Claire and Kathryn Goudie, who lit up her world. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings, Linda Sheehan, James J. (Diane) Sheehan, and William J. (the late Mary) Sheehan, as well as by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
Mary Anne lived with open arms and a heart full of gratitude. A career-long travel agent, she was endlessly curious about the world, traveling far and wide to experience the beauty, people, and stories each new place had to offer. Her warmth, wit, and welcoming spirit made everyone in her orbit feel seen and loved.
She remained grateful to the very end for what she often called her "charmed life" - one that was deeply loved and fully lived.
For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Mary Anne's life, memorial donations may be directed to Misericordia.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. All are invited to gather for the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 5, at 11:00 AM at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
The service will be live-streamed for those who are unable to attend. Should there be any technical difficulties during the live-stream a recording of the service will be available afterwards.

Dear Stephen, Michael and Julie,
I worked with Mary Anne years ago, and she was a joy to be around. Please accept sympathy and prayers for her and for your family. I was saddened, but the written tribute to her was lovely and uplifting. I wish you peace for the coming months and years.
