Mary Strak Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tate Mortuary on Feb. 21, 2026.
Mary Catherine "Mary Kay" Strak, 86, passed away on February 11, 2026, in Rush Valley, Utah.

Born on February 20, 1939, in Superior, Wisconsin, to Eugene Edmond "Ned" Donahue and Edith Benlick, Mary Kay dedicated her life to the service of others. A nurse by trade for over 40 years; her career was defined by a deep commitment to her patients. This passion extended even into her personal time; beginning in 2001, she spent many years volunteering as a nurse for the Dallas Cowboys summer training camps at River Ridge Playing Fields in Oxnard, California.

On December 21, 1973, Mary Kay married Herbert Strak. Together, they shared a love for travel and the open sea. They made their home in Port Hueneme, California, for over four decades, where Mary Kay found joy in her garden and frequenting local art shows and concerts in the Ventura area. Following Herbert's passing in January 2023, she moved to Rush Valley to live with her brother Mike's family, where she enjoyed the warmth and support of her relatives.

Mary Kay was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Michael and Patrick Donahue. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ann Donahue; her nephews, Brian, Troy, Kirk, Tim, "Little" Pat, and "Little" Mike; and many great-nieces and nephews.

The Donahue family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the friends and family who have offered support during this time. A special thank you goes to the amazing home health care staff: Kylie Browning, Rachel Daly, Bethany Redmond, Tralynn Barney and the dedicated staff at Lighthouse Adult Care Services for making Mary Kay feel so welcome and exceptionally well cared for.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mary Kay's life on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 12pm-3pm at Rush Valley Town Hall.
