William Francis Hartman III

February 5, 1959 – February 25, 2026

William F. Hartman was born on February 5, 1959, in San Francisco, California, to Norma O'Reilly and William Francis Hartman Jr. He lived life in his own rhythm, often seeming to follow the quiet music of his own guitar, whether or not others always understood the tune.

In his youth, William was an accomplished swimmer at the Rosemont Cabana Club, earning numerous ribbons in both swimming and diving. He attended Hiram W. Johnson High School, where he played soccer. Those early years reflected energy, friendships, and promise. As life unfolded, his journey took turns that were sometimes challenging, shaping both his experiences and his relationships. Through it all, he held onto a few close friendships that lasted throughout his life.

William was passionate about softball, surfing, concerts, skim boarding, and playing frisbee.

William married Lisa Loveday in 1986. Their union produced four wonderful children. They later divorced. He married Nina Roberie; and later divorced.

William was the father of six children: Jenny (Paul), Kylie (Scott), Jason, Kaitlin, Karissa (Bronson), and Emma. Their family story, like many, included seasons of closeness as well as distance. Yet connection remains, and the legacy of family continues forward through each of them. His children have grown into capable, resilient adults, carrying forward strength, compassion, and the hope that understanding and healing are always possible.

William is survived by his six children, eleven grandchildren, and his sister, Betty Stangle. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lawrence "Butch" Camden, and two grandchildren.

William's life reflected individuality, struggle, and sometimes the harsh realities of humanity. He was not a perfect man, none of us are, but he lived authentically in his own way. Remembering him invites space for compassion: for the good memories, the difficult ones, and the understanding that every life is complex.

Those who knew William will remember him differently, each holding their own experiences and reflections. In his passing, there is also an opportunity for peace, forgiveness, and healing, and for gratitude for the strength of family that continues beyond him.

A memorial will be held in California at a later date.
