Mary Ellen Stricklen was born on December 4, 1942, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Jesse Web and Pearl (Bogle) Rowland. She departed this life on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in Arkansas, at the age of 81 years.
Growing up, Mary attended schools in Locust Grove. On October 12, 1961, in Pryor, Oklahoma, Mary and Maurice Wayne Stricklen, Sr were united in marriage. They had been married for over 56 years, when Maurice preceded her in death in 2018.
Mary lived most of her life in Locust Grove. She also lived in Kansas and Missouri for a short time. Mary enjoyed scrapbooking and working with pictures. She liked to go to yard sales and could often be spotted venturing around town. She loved Hershey's candy bars and enjoyed a bottle of Coke Cola. Mary was known to spread the gospel to anyone and would always encourage parents to take their babies to church. She will be missed.
Mary is survived by: 5 children: Maurice Wayne Stricklen, II and wife Theresa of Leach, Oklahoma, Troy Scott Stricklen and wife Karla of Flint Ridge, Oklahoma, Joey Stricklen and wife Becky of Leach, Oklahoma, Cassidy Stacy and husband Christopher of Okemah, Oklahoma, and Amanda Stricklen and fiancé Ashley Deason of Muskogee, Oklahoma; 20 grandchildren: Maurice Stricklen, III, Marshall Stricklen, Morgan Stricklen, Addison Alkire, Dawson Abbey, Taylor Stricklen, Wyatt Stricklen, Coby Joe Stricklen, Casey Littlejohn, Chais Stricklen, Jesse Stricklen, Shelbie Stricklen, Braden Stricklen, Jacie Stricklen, Triston, Ayden, Brooklyn, Preston, Mia, and Sonya. 16 great-grandchildren; 1 brother: Bob Rowland of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Mary was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Maurice; 6 brothers: Clarence Dan Rowland, Steve Rowland, Ben Rowland, Jim Rowland, J.T. Rowland, and Jack Rowland; and 2 sisters: Arlene Powell and Clara Dean Miller.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the Locust Grove Funeral Home Chapel in Locust Grove. Reverend Dennis Nance will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
