Mary Jane Thielen (nee Pfeifer), age 89, of Saint Paul Park and formerly of Saint Paul, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2023, in Woodbury, Minnesota. Born on May 19, 1934, in North Saint Paul, Minnesota, Mary Jane was the embodiment of kindness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. She married the love of her life, George Thielen on June 9th, 1956 where they spent many wonderful years together until he passed in 1987.
Mary Jane's illustrious career as a registered nurse spanned several hospitals, leaving an impact on the lives she touched. She began her journey after graduating from St. Catherine's University in 1955 with a degree in nursing. Her compassionate nature and exceptional skills led her to work at institutions such as St. John's Hospital, Anker Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, and United Hospital. For decades, Mary Jane dedicated herself to providing comfort and care to countless patients during their most vulnerable moments.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mary Jane was cherished for her vibrant personality and zest for life. Known for being outgoing and fun-spirited, she radiated positivity wherever she went. Her charitable nature was evident through her selfless acts of kindness towards those less fortunate than herself. Whether it was volunteering at local shelters or donating to various causes close to her heart, Mary Jane consistently exemplified the true meaning of compassion.
In her leisure time, Mary Jane found solace in a variety of interests that brought joy to her life. She had a deep love for traveling and shared countless adventures with her beloved late husband throughout their journey together. Nature held a special place in Mary Jane's heart; she often found solace in the great outdoors through camping trips that allowed her to marvel at the beauty surrounding her.
Animals held a special place in Mary Jane's heart; she adored all creatures great and small but had a particular affinity for dogs. Over the years, she lovingly cared for many furry companions who brought immeasurable happiness into her life.
Another passion of Mary Jane's was the world of entertainment. She found great joy in immersing herself in the enchanting melodies and captivating stories of Broadway musicals. Additionally, she could often be found enjoying the company of her dogs while indulging in watching the Game Show Network. She also enjoyed crafting and quilting in her spare time as well
Mary Jane Thielen's legacy will live on through the lives she touched, both professionally and personally. Her compassionate spirit and dedication to serving others will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. Mary Jane leaves behind cherished memories that will be treasured by her family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the honor of crossing paths with her.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, George Thielen and her daughter, Judy Prowse (David).
She is survived by her sister, Pat Pfeifer; daughters, Lori Mitchell and Sharon Thielen; sons, Larry Thielen (Vicki), Dan Thielen (Kate), and Joe Thielen; grandchildren, Jessie, Brandon, Caroline, Matt, Nikki, Patrick, Josh, Adam, and Megan; great grandchildren, Emerson, Jackson, Elijah, Sawyer, Atticus, Cecelia, Harper, and a baby boy on the way.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13th, 2024 at 11am with an hour visitation prior at All Saints Lutheran Church (8100 Belden Blvd, Cottage Grove, MN 55016).
Burial to be held on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024 at 12:30pm at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Assembly Area #2.
