Mary Ann Todd, 80, of Morrisville, formerly of Poolville, passed away, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Crouse Community Center, Morrisville. Mary was born in Buffalo on October 8, 1943, to Mary (Park) and Jasper Burgin. She graduated from Cleveland Hill High School in 1961. She spent childhood summers with her extended family at their farm in Phelps, NY. Mary earned her Nursing Certificate from Millard Fillmore Nursing School, later completing her B.S. at Erie Community College. She was a former Plant Nurse at General Motors Assembly Plant and later the GM Powertrain Tonawanda Engine Plant, where she was a beloved caregiver, listener, and friend to many. While working for GM, she met and married Thomas Todd and began her family. Thomas predeceased her. In her retirement Mary relocated to Cooperstown, NY to be closer to her family, and while there, renovated and ran a Bed & Breakfast for several busy years.
Mary loved animals and nature. She enjoyed watching the birds and critters in her yard. Her trips to the Adirondacks, Vermont, and Maine were favorite adventures, and she loved a good sunset. She had a gift for decorating and opened her home to all, hosting and cooking with love. Although dementia robbed her of so much in recent years, she maintained her sense of humor and love of music, laughing at life and singing all the words to John Denver's greatest hits.
Mary cherished and was proud of her children and their families. She is survived by daughters Karyn (Richard) Dieffenderfer; Kathleen Todd (Justin Rogers); and Gayle Todd (William Hurd); Grandchildren, Katelyn (Jared) Niedermier, Ryan and Caroline Dieffenderfer, Grace and Hannah Todd-Rogers, and Molly Hurd; two great-granddaughters and several treasured cousins and friends.
Mary's family is thankful for her caregivers and friends who enabled her to live in her home for as long as possible. We are forever grateful to the dedicated staff at Crouse Community Center in Morrisville. Your compassionate care for Mary meant the world to us.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral services. A Celebration of Life will be planned for the spring.
Contributions in Mary's name can be made to Crouse Community Center,101 South Street, Morrisville, NY 13408, or the Chenango County SPCA, 6160 County Rd 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
