Mary "Louise" Muskelly Vanwright
"For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die…"
In the early morning hours, God called his faithful servant, Mary "Louise" Muskelly Vanwright from her earthly service to her heavenly home Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021.
Mary "Louise," also lovingly known as "Sister," was born June 19, 1931, in Cabarrus County, to the late Lawrance Muskelly and Mary Lee Muskelly Moore. After the early passing of her father, she was raised by her stepfather, Dewey "Pop" Moore.
Louise attended Logan High School until she left Concord, and moved to New York City. She continued her education in Business and Cosmetology and was employed at Esther's Beauty Salon, 125th St. in Harlem, N.Y. Louise worked in the Beauty Industry for 13 years and decided to take the Civil Service exam, passed it, and accepted a position as a Dietician.
Louise married the love of her life, Edward "Eddie" Vanwright, and they enjoyed traveling, cooking, and spending time with family. Louise joined the Order of the Eastern Star (Adah Chapter 8A). Serving the Lord and worship were important to Louise, and she joined First Corinthians Baptist Church and sung in the Young Adult Choir.
Louise and Eddie later moved back to Concord, in 1990, to take care of her mother and to retire. She joined First Christian Church and was a faithful member, where she served in the Christian Women's Fellowship and on the Hospitality Committee.
Louise had a smile that would light up any room that she entered. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching soap operas, taking sewing classes, and other activities that took place in the community. She was an excellent cook and loved different kinds of foods, Louise had a strong appreciation for culinary dishes. After 30 years of being back in North Carolina, she still found it difficult to find New York City quality foods that met her unique critique of culinary dishes. She loved New York style food varieties and specialties and often made that known.
Before her illness, Louise found joy in visiting the sick and home-bound-especially the elderly. Every week, she planned her visits and would take them their favorite foods. She was a joyous person and Louise loved to celebrate birthdays - sometimes even two birthdays in June and July. She was a member of the Senior Pals Social Club and made sure to take time to include weekly Bible studies in her home. A generous giver, Louise donated to many organizations to help others such as the St. Jude Children's Hospital, Feed the Children, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty (ASPCA) to Animals, and many others.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband; brothers, Lonnie, Ernest, Milas "Mike," Jay Muskelly and Willie Lee Moore.
Those left to cherish her memory are special goddaughter and caretaker, Donna White-Cook (Everette) and their children, LaKeisha, Alton and Kendall; stepchildren, Gwendolyn Pittman of Goose Creek, S.C., Kenneth Vanwright of Atlanta, Ga., Cornelius Vanwright and Kelvin Vanwright of New York, Edward Vanwright of Connecticut, Sharon Vanwright of Maryland; and god-daughter, Charlena Bengall of Charleston, S.C.; nieces, Mary E. She will be truly missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.
