Mary Jean Wadsworth Slusher, was affectionately known as Jeannie. She died peacefully at her home at the age of 75 on July 26, 2025 after several short hospital stays. She was surrounded by her beloved husband of 57 years and her children. Jeannie was caringly tended to by her Stein Hospice nurse Teresa.
Jeannie was a 1968 graduate of Perkins high school and married the love of her life, Lewis Charles Slusher II that same year. During her younger years, Jeannie was the brainiac that helped many classmates write essay papers, and pass their classes. She played the trumpet and later joined a bowling league. She was an avid member of her church, Community Of Christ of which she was the pastor for several years. Jeannie was an accomplished pianist and also played the organ. She played piano for the church from the age of 9.
She was hired by many friends and family for weddings and special events. Jeannie graduated from the Providence school of nursing in 1971 and devoted her life to her career for over 50 years. She tried to retire twice, but kept getting a call back for help, to which she dutifully obliged. She was well-known and respected in her field and also taught college classes after receiving her Bachelors degree in the Science of Nursing. She enjoyed learning and sharing her knowledge with others. She loved deeply and would often tell people that her husband was the love of her life and that her sister was her heart. Jeannie had an instrumental role in the raising (and spoiling) of several grand/great grandchildren. Jeannie was generous to all and had a reputation for it.
Mary Jean was preceded in death by her son Paul Slusher, father Marvin Wadsworth, brother Thomas Wadsworth, granddaughter Brittany Moore, both sets of grandparents: Alvin & Margery Wadsworth and Edward & Ollie Criswell, and many aunts and uncles. She is survived by her mother, Dolores Wadsworth, sister Marsha (John) Harris, brother Mark Wadsworth, children: Dawn Whipple, Julie (Tony) Raymore, Jennifer Slusher, Lewis Slusher III, grandchildren: Jordan Raymore, Trevor (Ashley) Raymore, Chelsea (Jerome) Reimers, Lewis Cameron Slusher, Franklin Whipple, Konner Slusher, Marvin Slusher, great grandchildren: Jevin (Kenzie) Moore, Aedryan Armstrong, Deja Armstrong, Kennen Armstrong, Duwane Hunter Jr, Tristan Tackett, Naydia Tackett, Zayden, Raymore, Braxton Raymore, Kylo Raymore, and great-great grandchildren, Bella and Stormie Moore.
The family will receive friends and family on Friday, August 1, 2025 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Faith Church 1320 East Strub Rd. in Sandusky Ohio. Service will be at 11:00 AM with a funeral procession to Meadow Green Cemetery immediately after. Loved ones are invited to return to the church to share in a meal.
Gifts of food are welcome and memorial contributions can be made out to Faith Church.
