Mary Gabriel Weaks

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Mary Gabriel Weaks affectionately known as "Mama Sue" to her grandchildren and others, entered eternal sweet everlasting peace. She began her journey to be at home "with the Lord". Mary was the daughter of the late Josie Shankle & Willie Gabriel. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Cobb Wesley Weaks, son Michael S. Weaks, brothers John Gabriel and Charles Mackins, sister Eloise Madison, granddaughter LaToya Austin and son-in-laws Gary Minter and Terry White. Mary "Mama Sue" was born and raised in Concord, North Carolina. She attended Shankletown and Logan High School. She was a housewife and "the summer camp director" for her grandkids at her home. Mary was a faithful member of Rock Hill A.M.E. Church and served as a Deaconess, Stewardess, the Missionary Department, and Usher board. She leaves so many precious memories to cherish: three daughters Sylvia Weaks Barnes (Robert) of Kannapolis, Donna Weaks White of Concord, and Karen Weaks Minter of Salisbury; three sons, Sherman W. Weaks of Concord, Vernon A. Weaks of Winston Salem and Darryl Weaks of the home; one brother Hoytdell Gabriel (Jeanette) of Kannapolis and one sister Gerlene Parks of Concord. Four sister in laws, Jolene Moore of Harrisburg, Phyllis Carr of Concord, Gertrude Cunningham (Darnell) of Kannapolis and Judy Meyers of Mount Pleasant. Twelve wonderful grandchildren, Pastor Michael Weaks (Crystal), Wesley Weaks (Tanya), Marcus Weaks (Kim), Talanya Weaks, LaToya Weaks Shankle (Chris), Kenyan Weaks, DeQuan Sanders, Shannon Rose, Shiri Grier Foster (Antonio), Crystal Wilson (Herbert), Walter Rose Jr. and Justin Weaks, 34 great-grandchildren and 38 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Special friends Phyllis Black, Catherine E. Walker, Joyce Caldwell and Rev. Willis J. Wilkerson. Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Monday, May 26, 2025 at Rock Hill A.M.E. Zion Church located at 3620 Rock Hill Church Rd in Concord. The visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. - Noon followed by the funeral service at Noon. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Lamb Funeral Home Inc. will be serving the family.
