Mary Stephens Whitlock, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, departed this life on December 27, 2024, at the University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Athens, Georgia. Born on August 31, 1948, she graced the world with her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness for over seventy-six years.
Mary’s professional journey led her to work for Mt. Vernon Mills, Hardees, and the BJC Medical Center, where her dedication and work ethic were a testament to her character. Colleagues and patrons alike were touched by her warm smile and her willingness to lend a helping hand, embodying the very essence of compassion in all she did.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack L. Whitlock Sr., their cherished son Jack L. Whitlock Jr., and her beloved son Michael G. Whitlock, as well as her dear daughter, Scarlett Whitlock. Mary also mourned the loss of her parents, Monroe and Ella Black Stephens, who inspired her with their love and devotion throughout her life. Their memories will continue to reside in the hearts of all who knew them.
Mary is survived by her two wonderful granddaughters, Breanna Whitlock and Dawn Whitlock, who brought immense joy to her life. Her legacy of love and strength will forever be remembered through them, as they carry forward the values she instilled in her family.
A visitation to honor her life will be held on January 2, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Ivie Funeral Home located at 1053 S. Elm Street, Commerce, GA. This will be followed by a funeral service starting at 2:00 PM, allowing friends and family to gather together to share stories and celebrate the remarkable life of Mary.
Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Jackson Memorial Gardens in Commerce, Georgia, during an interment ceremony commencing directly after the funeral. It is a bittersweet farewell, where those who loved her will gather to reminisce about her warmth, compassion, and the beautiful moments shared.
Mary Stephens Whitlock will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her, a beacon of love and strength that will guide her family as they navigate through this profound loss. Her spirit will continue to illuminate their lives, serving as a comforting reminder of the enduring power of love and memory.
