Maryana Louise Mettler, 85, of Quincy, passed away Monday, September 8, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in
Quincy, IL.
Maryana was born October 21, 1939, in Indianapolis, IN to Kenneth and Mariam (Barnett) Brugman. She was married to Charles Mettler on December 28, 1990, in Waco, TX. He preceded her in death on March 23, 2013.
Survivors include her three children, Robert R. Roman (Sarah) of Quincy, Mikel A. Roman (Sara) of St. Louis, and Angela R. Potter (Randy) of Breckenridge, CO; nine grandchildren, Heather Roman, Andrew Roman, Audrey Roman, Ryan McNay, Courtney McNay Young (Durkin), Alex McNay (Abbie Blickhan), Claire Reed Leapley (Kody), Justin Reed (Chelsea), and Taylor Reed Janus; and eleven great-grandchildren, Charlotte "Charlie" Reed, Chase Reed, Blakely Young, Sloane Young, Graeson Leapley, Kohen Leapley, William Roman, Roman Flesner, Leon Prater, Lawson Janus, and Palmer Janus.
Maryana was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Mike Brugman; and one sister, Cassandra Brugman.
An alumna of IL Wesleyan College from 1957 to 1959, Maryana was a proud member of the Kappa Kappa Delta Sorority and earned a place in the Honor Society - Phi Theta Kappa. Her passion for education led her to become a dedicated teacher, enriching the lives of second and third graders with her wisdom and care. Maryana's professional journey continued at the Research Institute of America, where her exceptional work ethic and talent in sales earned her numerous achievement awards, including the prestigious Presidential award and a national ranking of seventh in sales.
Later in life, Maryana pursued a career in nursing, attending McClennan College of Nursing and becoming a registered nurse. She provided compassionate care to many at the United Methodist Home, embodying the spirit of service that defined her life. Maryana was an active member of St. John's Cathedral, where her faith and fellowship were an integral part of her community involvement.
Family was the cornerstone of Maryana's world. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the values of love, perseverance, and faith. Her interests were as diverse as her talents; she had an enduring love for horses, a passion for travel, an appreciation for music, and a joy for dancing. Maryana's life was a dance of grace, resilience, and love-a dance that will continue in the hearts of those who knew her.
Cremation is under the direction of O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home. A service will be held at St. John's Cathedral at a later date.
