Maryann E. Califano, 70, passed away on October 9, 2023. Maryann was born in Staten Island, NY to the late John and Concetta (Parisi) Rosata. She spent all of her formative years there and it is also where she met and married her childhood sweetheart and from which she embarked on her life as a military spouse and mother. She was a devoted civil servant, dedicating 29 years in support of the U.S. Coast Guard, where her commitment and service left an indelible mark on so many. She retired in 2015.
Maryann was not only a dedicated professional but also a loving wife, beloved mother, adored grandmother and cherished family member. She poured her heart and soul into her family, creating warm and memorable holiday meals that brought loved ones together. Her passion for cooking and her nurturing spirit will be deeply missed.
In addition to her dedication to the USCG and culinary talents, Maryann was an avid scrapbooker. Her creative flair and dedication to preserving memories through scrapbooking left a lasting legacy of cherished moments and shared experiences.
Maryann Califano's life was a testament to her dedication to both her country and her loved ones. She leaves behind a loving family and a community of friends who will always remember her as a devoted civil servant, a talented cook, and a creative soul who could turn ordinary moments into beautiful memories.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 50 years, Robert (Bob) Califano Sr.; daughter, Jodi Demetriff and her husband Jeff; son Robert (Rob) Califano Jr.; grandchildren, Jackson Demetriff and Kylee Califano; brother, John Rosata and his wife Marie; countless cousins with whom she remained as close as siblings for the duration of her life; nieces and nephews; in-laws; and so many workplace friends that have become family.
A Catholic wake and visitation with the family will be held at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Sunday, October 15th from 2pm - 6pm. A Catholic funeral ceremony to celebrate her life will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 16th at 11am. A reception will take place following the ceremony.
Maryann will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.

Maryann was always a ray of sunshine at work in the USCG Finance Center. I recall so many great talks about the good old Coast Guard days on Governors Island. Having served several tours there myself; we enjoyed sharing stories and laughs about the Coasties we knew and about life in the Big Apple. Maryann was a great lady and patriot and her memory will live on with all of us who knew and loved her.
