Marylou Cummings, of Hingham, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, at the age of 68, surrounded by her family, after a decade-long battle with dementia. A cherished sister, aunt, godmother, cousin, and friend, Marylou's life was a testament to strength and love, touching all who knew her.
Born in Dorchester, Marylou was one of nine children born to James and Rita Cummings. The family later moved to Weymouth, where she spent most of her life. After graduating from Weymouth South High School in 1974, Marylou demonstrated her determination and intelligence by earning a Bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University, attending night classes while working full-time.
For over 25 years, Marylou was a respected Certified Public Accountant. Her career was marked by the same dedication and passion she brought to every aspect of her life. Outside of work, Marylou enjoyed a variety of interests. She found solace at Morton’s Pond in Plymouth and explored the landscapes of the Canary Islands, Italy, Colorado (for skiing), and California's wine country, San Diego and San Francisco. An avid gardener, she found joy tending to her plants and flowers, creating a welcoming home filled with laughter and love. She cherished time spent with her nieces, nephews, and godchildren, taking pride in their accomplishments. Though strong and independent, with a reserved demeanor, Marylou possessed a quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor.
Marylou will be remembered as a dear friend to many, a testament to the deep connections she forged throughout her life. Her legacy of love, kindness, and humor will continue to inspire all who knew her.
In her final years at Allerton House, Marylou became a favorite among staff and residents alike. Her loving, kind, and funny personality shone through, providing comfort to those around her. Even as her memory faded, the essence of who she was remained.
Marylou was the cherished sister of Jim Cummings and his wife Rose of Falmouth, Rita Hull and her husband Bob of Braintree, Trish Borgendale and her husband Dennis of Quincy, Martin Cummings and his wife Mary Alice of Weymouth, Eileen Cummings of Hanson, Theresa Yeo and her fiancé Ted Begnoche of Hingham, and Carolyn Marsh and her husband Brad of Halifax. She was predeceased by her brother, Kevin Cummings, whose wife Eloise survives him in Santee, CA. She is also survived by 21 nieces and nephews, including her godchildren, Tracy Hulke and Erik Borgendale.
