Masami Miya Obituary

Masami Miya, born on January 11, 1927, in Ogden, Utah, peacefully passed away at his home in Roy, Utah, on March 22, 2026. Masami's journey came to a gentle close, surrounded by his family and his hand held firmly in theirs.

Masami was born to Gensaku and Tsugi Miyagishima, and part of a family that included siblings Miyoko (George) Shibata, Buster (Mildred) Miya, Sumie (Daiichi) Yoshimura, and Uji Miya. In 1964, Masami married Kyoko Kawasaki in Shizuoka, Japan. A dedicated family man, Masami and Kyoko together built a life anchored by love and community. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Tena Miya, Nancy (Mark) Munekata, and Sharon (Robert) Schutte, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and laughter. His grandchildren Kai, Erika, Rod, and Kimberly, along with five cherished great-grandchildren, continue to be a source of pride and joy.

Masami was a man whose happiness was as radiant as his ever-present laughter. Known widely for his joyful spirit, he carried a pocket full of candy and a heart full of kindness. Wherever he went, whether a local store or down the neighborhood street, his infectious laugh was unmistakable, a beacon that called friends—even strangers—to share in his contagious joy. A truly chatty man, Masami’s gift was turning the ordinary into moments of connection and warmth, especially when grocery shopping, where his lingering conversations often caused loved ones to smile and patiently wait.

Masami’s career was as industrious as his personality was warm. A heavy equipment operator and farmer by trade, he found joy in the mechanics of life. His evenings were often spent repairing lawn mowers and maintaining farm equipment. He approached his work with the same care and precision that he brought to everything in life.

One of Masami’s proudest accomplishments was his time as a school bus driver. This role connected deeply with his love for children and community. Bringing joy to the little kids he ferried was a special opportunity for Masami, enriching his own life as much as theirs.

Masami and Kyoko traveled the world, enjoying various locations with friends and family, sharing in the camaraderie and experiences that brightened their days. Together, they went through Asia, the Middle East, and many US states. His zest for life was complemented by his affinity for travel, happily exploring new horizons throughout the years.

His happiness was simple yet profound—a man who was grateful, easy to care for, and kind with everyone he met. He was blessed with many good friends who loved and cherished his laughter and warmth. Masami’s spirit will live on in countless memories. We hold dear the gift of knowing such a happy, grateful man who so filled the world around him with joy.

Masami is proceeded in death by his wife Kyoko; son, Paul Alan; parents and siblings. His life was woven with stories, love, and shared history, all of which speak to a legacy that spans generations.

Today, as we bid farewell, we honor Masami Miya not only for the life he lived but for the love he shared so generously. His simple happiness taught us all the power of kindness, laughter, and connection.

Rest peacefully, dear Masami. Your laughter still warms our hearts.
