Mr. Benton was born November 2, 1946 in Wellington, Texas to Laverne Cordia (Miller) and Mason Lee Benton, Sr. He was a Baptist and had lived in Seminole since 1974, having moved from Littlefield, Texas. Mason had worked as a peace officer in Seminole for over 20 years; he also worked in law enforcement in Littlefield before moving to Seminole. After retirement he remained a workaholic, always on the go. He worked as a truck driver and dispatcher for Basic Energy, and later as a pumper for the Thurwangers and Rick Allison. Mason had a passion for speed and enjoyed his motorcycles, buying and trading old fast cars, and saw himself as an Indy race car driver. He also loved firearms of all kinds, playing cards, and going to the casino. He had a great love for his dog, Trouble; he especially loved his family.

Mason Benton passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Dianna (aka Big Mama) Benton; one sister, one aunt, and two grandchildren, Kiaera Trout and Hagen Rasmussen. He is survived by two sons, Shane Benton and wife Jeanette of Seminole, Texas, and Kip Lee Benton of Amarillo, Texas; two daughters, Missy Trout of Brush, Colorado, and Jordan Coffman and husband Nick of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Jan Clement and husband Maurice of San Angelo, Texas, Nyoka McGee and husband Jerrylynn of Odessa, Texas, and Tammy Bell and husband Carl of Pittsburg, Texas; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
