Ruben Chaves

A memorial service for Ruben Chaves, of Seminole, Texas, will be held Monday, February 16, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Eduardo Teo officiating. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home. His family has lovingly provided the following obituary.

Ruben Chaves, 84, passed away on February 11, 2026. He was born on May 27, 1941, in Chaves County, New Mexico. In 1967, Ruben relocated to Seminole, Texas, where he made his home and built a life centered on hard work and family.

Throughout his life, Ruben worked as a farmer, ginner, and most recently as a truck driver. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family.

In November 1963, Ruben married the love of his life, Maria Chaves. They shared 62 years of marriage together. Ruben was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ruben's happiest moments were spent with his family. He especially enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, and in his younger years, basketball. His love for family and time together will be remembered by all who knew him. Ruben would always ask: "Are you ready to do a little well digging for your breakfast?" Ruben Chaves will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

In addition to his parents, Perfecto and Isabel Chaves; he is preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters; and one nephew, Chris Chaves. Ruben is survived by his wife, Maria Chaves; one brother, Fernando Chaves of Seminole, Texas; his children, Stella Chaves of The Colony, Texas, Ruben Chaves (Barbara) of Wink, Texas, and Esther Chaves of Seminole, Texas; as well as Christina, Pablo, Missy, Valerie, and Annie. He is also survived by his adopted son, Christopher "CA" Melson. Ruben leaves behind six grandsons, one granddaughter, and sixteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
