Michael Watson was born on November 28, 1947 in
Lexington, Kentucky to Margaret (Quealy) and James Arthur Watson. The oldest of six children, he was smart, charismatic, and mischievous. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and had lived and worked in Seminole since 1994. Dr. Watson held four degrees, a B.S. in Chemistry, an M.S. in Biochemistry, an M.S. in Chemical Engineering, and an M.D. in Medicine at Tulane University. It was in medicine that he found his true calling. Dr. Watson never gave up on any of his patients. He was an iconoclast who worked for his patients despite the healthcare industry, attacking problems with insight and creativity. He was not interested in following healthcare norms if they were not in the best interest of his patients.
Dr. Watson had an inquisitive mind, wanting to understand how things worked from his earliest days. He built his first engine in second grade and was always building and fixing things. He was an avid tennis player and loved to canoe. On weekends, he could be found at the tennis court hitting balls with players half his age, or at his ranch in Junction, paddling the South Llano. As a young man, Dr. Watson designed, built, and raced wood and fiberglass canoes. In 1979, a young Mike Watson set the one-man record in the Texas Water Safari-the world's toughest canoe race-in a canoe that he had built himself.
Dr. Michael Q. Watson passed away at his home on February 28, 2026, surrounded by loving friends and family. He was preceded in death by his father.
