Mateo Evan Black of Hillsboro, Oregon passed away unexpectedly on September 29th, 2024. Our family is heartbroken and devastated by this loss. Mateo was born and raised in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Mateo was born on January 10th, 2000, to Norman & Samarha Black.
Mateo got his GED in April of 2017 through Hillsboro High School. He went to work full time at 17yrs old. He worked for Dennis 7 DEES doing landscape construction for 3 years. In 2020 Mateo joined the Local 737 Laborers Union as a Grade Checker. He worked for Coffman, Weitman and C&W Excavation. The last 2 1/2 years he worked alongside his father Norman at C&W. Mateo worked very hard at his craft and took great pride in what did. He enjoyed running heavy equipment. His motto was work smarter not harder. He loved working with his dad and learning how to start a job, read the plans and work as a team to complete it. He had recently joined the Local 701 Operating Engineers Union.
Mateo was a very private person and did everything old school. He enjoyed doing many other things outside of work. He enjoyed spending time with his family & close friends. He loved being outdoors, camping, kayaking, hiking and anything else close to the water. He enjoyed working on his truck, taking pictures, tattoos, gaming, building firearms, going shooting, listening to music and living life to the fullest. Making memories and living in the moment was something Mateo always did. He wanted everyone around him to be able to experience the same thing.
Mateo was loyal, deeply kind, lighthearted, loved deeply and was hilarious. He was known for always putting everyone & their feelings before his own. He always made sure everyone was okay and would put a smile on their face to make sure. His smile would light up the room & everything, and everyone around him. The big guy under all those tattoos was actually sensitive, kind, generous, had a huge heart and gave the best hugs.
Mateo is survived by his Parents Norman & Samarha, His Sister's Kiarha & Alexandra, His Nieces Jubilee & Haven, His Grandma's Lois & Lydia, Aunt Amethyst, Aunt Amber, Uncle Brady and Grandpa Gene. He is preceded by his Grandpa Larry Black and Great Grandpa Chilo
Mateo will be missed terribly. He will live on in our hearts, minds, actions, dreams and memories forever. To have known Mateo was to love him for the amazing person he was.
