Matilda Sirianni ObituaryMatilda "Tillie" Sirianni, 84, of Tinton Falls, N.J. died peacefully on March 19, 2025 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, N.J.
Born in Long Branch, Tillie was the second of five siblings of Albert Sr. and Josephine Sirianni. After graduating from Asbury Park High School in 1958, she helped care for her younger siblings before marrying and having two children of her own.
She spent several years as a homemaker in Oceanport and became a surrogate mother and grandmother to countless nieces, nephews, and friends. Tillie later returned to Brookdale Community College and Georgian Court University and earned her teaching degree. Tillie spent nearly 40 years as a teacher and reading specialist at Oakwood School where she taught hundreds of teenaged boys and made life-long friends of her fellow teachers. Later in life she traveled around the world, including going on a safari in South Africa for her 70th birthday.
Tillie was especially known for her quick wit and playful banter. When not watching scary B-movies, Tillie was cheering for her New York Giants and New York Yankees. For more than ten years, she traveled with her granddaughter's club basketball teams and became the surrogate "Grandma Tillie" to a whole new generation. Tillie developed her own passion for women's basketball, especially the New York Liberty or, as she called them, "the girls." She will be greatly missed.
Tillie was predeceased by a grandson, Anthony Penta, and three brothers, Steve, Ralph, and Albert Jr. She is survived by her son, Frank (Irene) Penta Jr., of Tampa, FL, daughter, Kristi (Tom) Duffy, of Tinton Falls, granddaughter, Julia Duffy, of Jersey City, sister, Ginny (Bill) Donnellon, of Morristown, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is also survived by her beloved dog Cece, who brought her endless joy.
Visitation will be held at Fiore-Buckley Funeral Home at 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst (Ocean), NJ 07755 on Sunday, March 23 from 10 am to 1 pm with a brief service at 12 pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis National Research Foundation. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
