Matilde Ulate Hernandez, a cherished matriarch and beacon of kindness, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, at the age of 89 in Odessa, Texas. Born on March 14, 1936, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, Matilde's life was a testament to her unwavering love for her family and her faith.
Matilde's journey began in the warm embrace of her parents, Jose Maria Ulate and Eutimia Gonzales Ulate. She grew up surrounded by the love of her siblings, and this foundation of family unity guided her throughout her life. Matilde's heart found its counterpart in her husband, Ricardo "Ruben" Carrasco, with whom she shared fifty-one beautiful years. Together, they cultivated a home filled with laughter, compassion, and enduring love.
Matilde's legacy is carried on by her devoted children, Anna Hernandez, Victoria Hernandez, Leticia Flores and her husband Nayo, Delma Hernandez, Angel Hernandez Jr. and his wife Kerri, and Abel Hernandez and his wife Stephanie. Her brothers Antonio, Guillermo, and Eliodoro Ulate, and sisters Maria Felix Ulate, Otilia Ulate, and Maria Del Pilar Lujan, along with her eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family members, will continue to honor her memory.
A reunion in eternal peace has come for Matilde as she joins her parents, her first husband Angel Hernandez, her sister Francisca Rey, and her brother Meliton Ulate.
Matilde was a devoted wife and mother. She poured her heart into caring for her children, creating a warm and nurturing environment that was the heart of her home. Her Christian faith was the compass that guided her through life's trials and triumphs, and she shared this faith with grace and humility.
Those who knew Matilde will remember her for her love of the outdoors and her active lifestyle. She found joy in the simplicity of tending to her garden. Matilde was also an exceptional cook, known for her delicious meals that were a true expression of her love and generosity.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, from six until eight o'clock in the evening at McNett Funeral Home in Andrews, Texas. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at ten o'clock in the morning at Andrews North Cemetery.
