Matt Bushnell Obituary

Newspaper Obituary (Durango Herald, Legacy.com)

Matt Douglas Bushnell passed away at age 56 on December 31, 2024 at his home in Mesa Arizona. He was born September 26, 1968 in Denver, Colorado and raised in Durango by Donald and Elizabeth Bushnell.

Matt was an outstanding baseball player at Durango High School and in summer league Babe Ruth. He received baseball scholarships to Denver Metro and Snow College in Ephraim, UT.

His career was in the real estate title industry, working for Chicago Title in Illinois and Stewart Title in Durango. In declining health the past few years, he turned a lifetime love of sports into a creative endeavor in youth sports photography.

Matt's greatest role in life was that of Dad. Proud father to Christian, Austin Lucas, Bryannah, Austin Dale, Maggy, Marcus and Brodey. He was patient and calm and worked hard to provide for his family.

Matt's health was impacted by diabetes, and he had a leg amputation in 2017. Over the last few years his health had declined and hospitalization was frequent. He remained as active as possible in his family's life.

Matt is survived by his wife Erin, by his children, their partners and spouses, and six grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Scott Bushnell, and sisters Jennifer Innocenzi and Kristen Phillips, by their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two half sisters and his biological father.

Funeral services will be Saturday January 11 at 11am at the church in Sanford, Colorado. Burial will follow in the Sanford Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Matt's name to the National Kidney Foundation or Mayo Clinic.

Just heard about Matt´s passing. Coached him in baseball and Matt was one of the most coach able kids I can remember. He was a quiet leader with a very savvy nature and knowledge of sports, a guy you built a team around. He loved to play the game and made it fun to coach! My heart and prayers go out to the family. May God provide comfort and peace,
