It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Matthew Clarke Biggerstaff on August 6, 2024. Matt was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on October 16, 1967, to the late Gale and Myron Biggerstaff. He led a life filled with compassion, dedication, and love.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E. 1st St., Ankeny, IA 50021). The family will greet visitors from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.
Matt's academic journey was marked by excellence and commitment. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and worked as a broker trading Energy Commodities. He later attended Des Moines University, further honing his skills through an internship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He completed a residency in Anesthesia and a fellowship in Pain Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Matt's dedication to his field led him to achieve Board Certification in Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, helping countless patients find relief and comfort.
Beyond his professional achievements, Matt was known for his kind heart, devotion to family, and selfless nature. He was a diehard Huskers fan who cherished lazy Saturdays watching the games. His love for sports extended to his children, as he proudly took on the role of softball dad and concession stand connoisseur. Matt also competed in sprint triathlons and had a particular fondness for the TRI-NO-NA race in Winona, MN.
In his personal life, Matt found joy in the simple pleasures; family dinners, watching the evening sunsets with Kate on their deck, and his favorite time of day "Coming Home". His four older children will cherish their memories of dinners at Wasabi, birthday cakes baked by Kate, sitting in the garage and talking, daddy-daughter dances, attending a White Sox game, the run at Living History Farms, and the Hobbit books being read to them.
Matt's legacy is one of a life well-lived, filled with moments of joy and unwavering devotion to his family and patients. He is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
Matt is survived by his wife, Katherine; his children: Kennedi, Evelyn, Eleanor, Lauren, Natalie, Tessa, and Ethan; his brother, Steve (Amy), and niece Sydney; as well as other loving family and many special friends.

Dr. Biggerstaff had been my pain specialist for the last 10 plus years. He was always understanding & always told me that he admired me for continuing to work even through the pain. The last time I saw him, he replaced my stimulator battery at the Greenfield hospital, 2 weeks before the tornado hit. I am so grateful that I was able to see him again. I am so sorry for his family´s loss. What a great person he was. Rest in Heaven, Sir.

Dr. Biggerstaff came out to Adair County Memorial Hospital. He helped me manage the pain before a knee replacement. He was so alive and so delightful. I am so sorry for your loss. What a guy!
