Matthew Allen Birdsall, aged 57, of White Cloud, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 19, 2025. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on February 22, 1968, Matt was a cherished son, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness and humility.
Though no services will be held in keeping with Matt's wishes, his spirit will continue to be celebrated and remembered by those who knew and loved him. Matt leaves behind his devoted parents, Shirley Ann Birdsall and Thomas Dale Birdsall, and his brother, Benjamin Birdsall (Melinda Wilk). He is also survived by his loving companion, Linda DeLong, and special friends Ryan "Butch" Grey and Scott Knight. Preceding Matt in death were his paternal grandparents, Bob and Betty Birdsall, maternal grandparents, JL and Eva Lindley, and his sister, Heather Lynn Birdsall.
For 34 years, Matt dedicated himself to a career as a Federal Rail Inspector. His commitment to safety and his tireless work ethic made him a respected figure in the railroad industry. Matt's colleagues and friends knew him as a selfless and patient individual who went above and beyond to ensure the well-being of those around him. Outside of work, Matt was an avid outdoorsman, finding joy in fishing and hunting. He was a naturally gifted athlete with an endless drive for success and a meticulous planner who always looked towards the future. His family and friends remember him as the best son, brother, and partner, whose presence will be eternally cherished. Matt's memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Corewell Health Hospice West MI, an organization close to Matt's heart. The family is grateful for the compassionate care he received in his final days. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crandell Funeral Home, White Cloud.
