Matthew Cross Chandler

Matthew Cross Chandler, age 56, passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2023, following a lengthy illness. Born on June 12, 1966, Matthew was the youngest son of Albert B. "Ben" Chandler, Jr. and Lucie Cross Dunlap "Toss" Chandler. A member of the Woodford County High School class of 1984, Matthew worked for The Woodford Sun for a number of years.
Though riddled with pain from severe scoliosis and a spinal infection that nearly crippled him, Matthew was a source of strength in his family. He was loved by everyone who knew him. Matthew was an old soul with the playful heart of a child. Wise and witty, charming and polite, generous to a fault, he was a gentle, kind and loving brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. We are shocked by his loss but rejoice that his pain has ended.
Matthew was preceded in death by his parents Toss and Ben, by his dear brother Whit Chandler, and by his grandparents Lady Louise and Whitney Dunlap, and Mildred and A.B. "Happy" Chandler. He is survived by brother Ben Chandler (Jennifer), niece Lucie Chandler, nephews Albert Chandler, Branham Chandler, and Gaius Chandler, cousins Jeff, Bruce and Celeste Lewis (Barry Dennis), Erin Chandler (Mark Thomas), sister-in-law Shaoqian Zhang, and special friend and companion Wendy Arehart.
