Matthew Choate, cherished son, devoted brother, beloved nephew, cousin and friend, passed away suddenly at the age of 27. He was born on May 29, 1996 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Richard and Teresa (nee Babcock) Choate. Matthew brought immense joy and love to those around him throughout his life. As a loving brother to Elizabeth Taylor Matthew's bond with his sister was unwavering, filled with shared memories and mutual support. Matthew is survived by aunts and uncles: Gary (Kelly) Choate, Mary Baker, and Carla (Jim) Gerner. Also his cousins: Sarah Kirksey, Brayden Kirksey, Norah Kirksey, Emily (Patrick) McGuckin, Kirsten McGuckin, Aiden McGuckin, Connor McGuckin, Jacob (Kristine) Choate and Kristian Choate.
As a youngster, Matthew and his family traveled all over the USA and had so many fun and memorable experiences together. In 2014, Matthew graduated from Stephenson High School in
Sterling Heights, Michigan. He attended Macomb Community College and discovered the automotive program that fueled his love of engine design and repair. In 2016, he received his Associate of Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology. His experience at MCC allowed him to become a certified mechanic. He continued his automotive education at Ferris State University and in 2020 completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Automotive Engineering Technology. After graduation Matthew obtained his first automotive position at General Motors. His most recent GM position as an Engine Service Design Engineer in the Customer Care and After Sales division allowed him to pursue his passion with engines as well as form strong bonds with those he worked with; he spoke highly of his team members and many others he had the opportunity to work with. Matthew's passions were as diverse as they were profound. At home he could be found working on car and motorcycle engines; ask him a question about an engine and you lovingly knew you were in for a long discussion. He found freedom and exhilaration in riding his motorcycle, a pastime that allowed him to explore and connect with the world around him. He enjoyed mentoring friends in their motorcycle skills, often practicing in his large back yard. His enthusiasm for gun collecting was well-known, reflecting his keen interest in history, craftsmanship, and precision. In addition to his family, Matthew is survived by a close-knit group of friends he dearly loved as brothers and always looked forward to spending time with them. Matthew, who is lovingly known as Matt in his social circles, showed camaraderie and loyalty that are a testament to the deep and lasting relationships he cultivated. His friends and family will forever remember his smiling face, infectious laughter, crazy sense of humor, adventurous spirit and the warmth he brought into every room. Matthew's legacy is one of love, adventure, and dedication. He is so very loved and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Matthew is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lester and Marion Babcock, Richard Sr. and Shirley Choate, and his brother-in-law, Max Taylor.
