Matthew Davis of Prospect, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024 at the age of 39. He was born in Marion, Ohio on June 4, 1985 to Terry and Laurie Davis. Matt attended Gilead Christian Elementary School and Cardington Lincoln Schools before graduating with North Union High School’s class of 2004. He married Jeanie Kuchenbecker on June 15th, 2019 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. While in school, Matt played football, basketball, and participated in Track & Field. He was incredibly active in North Union’s FFA program, eventually earning the State Farmer FFA Degree during his Senior Year. Farming was a proud tradition on both sides of Matt’s family and was in his blood at a very young age, going all the way back to when he managed to successfully plant popcorn in his sandbox at the age of 4. He enjoyed skiing and was part of many family vacations to New York and one special trip to Winter Park Colorado. He also enjoyed shooting and hunting, competing in numerous Sporting Clays tournaments around Ohio. He loved to cheer on the Scarlet & Grey and the Cleveland Browns.
After high school, Matt worked in a number of careers, mostly recently for Green Camp Township helping to maintain roads and maintaining the Township’s equipment. He, his wife Jeanie and his daughter Kenzley carried on his love for farming by raising sheep, raising crops, and baling hay and straw. He was a fifth generation farmer on the family farm in Richwood, Ohio. Outside of work he loved helping family, friends, and neighbors on any and all kinds of projects. More recently, he was incredibly proud of being involved with and being elected Secretary of the Buckeye Oliver Collectors Antique Tractor Club, traveling to classic tractor shows as far away as Pennsylvania and Florida.
More than anything he and his wife Jeanie were devoted to their daughter Kenzley. They were always supporting her in everything she was involved in, including her livestock projects through 4H and her participation in Pleasant School’s Girls Volleyball Program and Marion Hawks (club volleyball).
Matt will be remembered as being hard working, kind, loving and being of service to others. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, co-workers and all who knew him.
Matt is survived by his wife Jeanie, daughter Kenzley, parents Terry and Laurie Davis, sister Nikki (David) Lambert, niece’s Kayla & Lydia Lambert, nephew Jacob Lambert, grandparents Ann (Don) Oberdier, and Kathy McCafferty, aunt Susie Miller and uncles, Steve Davis and Shawn McCafferty, and many cousins. He is preceded in death by grandparents Jim and Mary Davis and Lee McCafferty, and uncle, Randy Davis.
Visitation will be on Thursday August 8, 2024 from 5-7 pm at Marion Christian Center 1550 Richland Rd. Marion, OH 43302. A funeral service will be held Friday August 9, 2024 at 11:00 am at Marion Christian Center with Roger Williams and Russell Howards officiating. It will be followed by a graveside service at Green Camp Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Local Schools (Volleyball in memo line) and the Wounded Warriors project.
