Matthew "Matt" Douglas Dempsey, 51, of Mettawa, Illinois, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Born and raised in Mt. Morris, Illinois, Matt built a life filled with love, laughter, and connection.

Matt was the devoted husband of Jeannine and proud father of Aiden and Taryn, the center of his world. He was the beloved son of Doug and Sandy Dempsey of Apopka, Florida, and the cherished brother of Julie (Dave) Morgan and Laurie (Aaron) Wolf. He was the fun-loving uncle to Evan and Emma Morgan, and Autumn and Logan Wolf. He was also the much-loved nephew of Jack Dempsey, and Tom Dempsey and his wife Kathy.

Matt was also a beloved son-in-law to Michael Flick of Leaf River. He shared a special bond with his extended family, including sister-in-law Nicolle (Steve) Shelton, and their children Samantha and Aaron. Samantha's three boys-Anthony, Timothy, and Joffrey. He was brother-in-law to Michael (Emily) Flick Jr., and uncle to their children Bryce and Joshua.

He leaves behind many extended family members and countless friends who will miss his easy smile, quick wit, and generous spirit.

As Vice President of Operations at Woodward, Matt was admired as both a brilliant leader and a trusted colleague. His intelligence, steady guidance, and natural ability to bring out the best in others earned him deep respect and lasting friendships in the workplace. He excelled in every challenge he faced, leaving a mark of excellence and integrity that will not be forgotten. Yet as accomplished as he was in his career, it was in life's simple joys where he found his greatest happiness. Matt loved cars, was a true dog lover, found surprising joy in tending his yard, and thrived on adventure big and small. Above all, he loved his wife and children deeply, and never missed a chance to connect with people-whether through a laugh, a story, or a helping hand.

Matt was one of the best-kind, easy going, funny and devoted. His warm and giving nature left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Services will be held from 2–5 p.m., Saturday, August 23, at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville, Illinois.

Matt's memory will live on in the love of both the Dempsey and Flick families, and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made to Matt's children's education fund, written to Jeannine Dempsey, c/o McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville, IL 60048 would be greatly appreciated. Funeral info (847) 362-2626

I have not seen Matt in a long time but I have a lot of wonderful memories of time spent with him. Whether it was playing sports, just hanging out or cruising the town in his Chevelle. Matt was a great person and I can only imagine what kind of husband and father he was. Thoughts and prayers for the entire family.

There are no words I can say or write to make your family feel as if these things never happen. What I can say is when I was last able to hug Matt and enjoy a lunch with him, he was glowing with love for you Jeannine, Aiden, and Taryn. He spoke highly of all his family and friends, it's just who he is.
Matt has touched so many lives and created so many more smiles. Jeannine, Aiden, and Taryn please know you are forever in my heart.
