Sheena, his loving sister-in-law, Randell Davis, his uncle and Howard Lee VanWoert, his grandfather and namesake, have received my son in heaven and will be taking over from here.
Matthew is 1 of 5 sons and 3 daughters.
Matthew is survived by his mother Anna and his extra mother Jill. His father Matt and extra father, Jeff.
His sisters Krystal, Samantha, Amber and Shawn, his brothers Desmond, Eli, Kyle, Brendon, Nathan (Brittan). His nieces and nephews Mattison, Rylan, Allyson, Aubren, Lisa, Josiah, Ethan, Sophia, Izaiah, Ezra, Adalyn, Ace, Colt and Lettie. All of whom he loved dearly and spent much time with.
Matthew enjoyed 4 years of competition canoe racing as a member of Explorer Post 313 In Bogalusa, LA and won many championships in many categories. Matthew was a 10-year member of the St. Tammany Parish Fire District 9 Youth fire Corps and achieved the rank of Lieutenant. Matthew attended High school at Covington High and was a student at 5th Ward Junior high in Bush, LA. Matthew grew up in his family home in Bush, LA.
Matthew made a decision at the age of 15 to be a donor and when he got his license he checked the block.
7 families have received the call of a lifetime today. Because of Matthew's gift.
7 families are celebrating their life and their renewed hope because of Matthew's death.7 families are right now as we speak screaming at the top of their lungs "THANK YOU JESUS".As terrible as this day is for us, This is the greatest day ever for 7 families. I want to thank them for receiving my Matthew's gift. I hope to see him in them someday.
