Matthew Dillon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 20, 2025.
Matthew W. Dillon, 72, of Manchester, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, December 18, 2025. Son of the late John E. and Adelaide (Plumstead) Dillon, Matthew was born on November 2, 1953, in Weymouth, MA. He moved to Connecticut as a young child, formally growing up between Hartford and West Hartford, before meeting the love of his life, Karen (Rafala), and settling in Manchester.
He was a graduate of Buckley High School, and afterwards had a respectable career as a software engineer at Travelers and Aetna, being known for his practical jokes just as much as his IT acumen.
Matthew is best known for his selflessness and dedication to those closest to him. Whether it was building furniture for family, restoring a friend's car, or chauffeuring for his son's many sporting and social engagements, Matthew was happiest serving those he loved. His altruism extended beyond to those he knew. His volunteer work with the Manchester Little League ran well beyond his son's participation and he often leveraged his hobbies to contribute to his favorite charities.
About those hobbies Matthew was a muscle car enthusiast through and through. A true Pontiac man. He spent many hours in the garage working on his beloved 1966 Pontiac GTO. He served as treasurer and president for the Connecticut GTO Club, organizing many charitable car cruises and shows. It was also the basis of many rich friendships.
Matthew is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Karen Dillon; his daughter, Kari Bouyea-Dillon and Rich Tiesler; his son, Christopher and Amanda Dillon; his grandchildren, Tyler and Colby Dillon; his sister, Patricia and George Ryan; and many loved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St. in Manchester on Monday, December 29, 2025, for calling hours from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Matt was a GREAT neighbor. He was always at the ready to help in any way he could. He took my late husband to the emergency room when he cut his wrist while trying to fix a broken garage window. Matt helped us hang a large mirror so it was positioned just right. He jump started my car a few times. One day as he looked out his window he said to Karen, "Oh no, June's on a ladder," and came running over to save me from my own stupid self. But I will miss him mostly for the really nice guy he was.

I was so sorry to read Matt's name in the obituaries that I try to scan on a regular basis so I don't miss someone I know. Matt was a very sweet guy with a kind smile. Not only do I remember him at Aetna, but more importantly, we graduated together from Bulkeley High and he was in my homeroom all 4 years. My sincere sympathy to his family. May he rest in eternal peace.
