Matthew Nelson Everly

Matthew blessed us with his life on April 28, 1984. He was a cuddly baby that rarely cried. He was a happy child and wanted to be outside from sun up until the streetlights came on. His mom recalls she often had to whistle to remind him it was time to come home.

He loved sports from a young age. He achieved his brown belt in taekwondo by age 7. He also competed in baseball, basketball, and football.

Matt graduated from Morgantown High School and entered the workforce as a landscaper with Landscapes Plus LLC, where he worked for 13 years. He worked several jobs during his fight with addiction. His current employer was B. Dayton Construction. His major focus these past few years has been improving his life and recovery.

He achieved his goals when a short illness took him to Heaven’s gates, where he was greeted by his dad, Freddie Nelson Everly, and grandparents Thomas Nelson Everly, Mary M. Jakeway Everly, John L. Deegan, and Lois F. Thompson Deegan, and aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Left behind to miss his smile, laughter, and hugs are his mom, Cheryl Deegan Everly; Izzy Virgil; his sister, Becky Everly Louk, and his brother-in-law, Edward Louk; niece, Haley Louk; nephew, Ryan Louk, and nephew Curtis Sharps, whom he shared a home with, along with the rest of his family and friends.

Gathering of friends and family will be held at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Wednesday August 20, 2025 from 10am until time of service at 12pm. Matthew will be laid to rest at East Oak Grove Cemetery following the service.
