Matthew Brett Johanson, (37) of Flandreau, SD, passed away at his home on Friday, May 9, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Flandreau. Family present visitation will take place from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Monday, May 12, 2025 at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD.

Matthew Brett Johanson was born in Spearfish, SD on August 25, 1987 to Brett and Kim Johanson (Nass). Matt attended preschool in Spearfish and found the love of Garth Brooks and being a little cowboy. In 1993, the family moved to a small farm outside of Egan where he attended kindergarten. After that, the family moved to a farm north of Flandreau where he attended and graduated from Flandreau in 2006 where he was involved in baseball, football and wrestling and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a lifelong devoted Dallas Cowboy's fan.

Matthew worked at Loiseau's as of 2020 as a mechanic and assisted his dad in bus driving when needed. Matthew also had a love for farming and whenever possible, even with Tinley, Brett, and Gannon riding along in the tractor, he was there. He recently joked that he was a farmer trapped in town, as he and his three kids resided in Egan. Matt's true passion was the love he had for his four children: Brynn, Tinley, Brett, and Gannon. He didn't miss any activity whether it was baseball, football, basketball, band, choir, or church events. He even got to spend his last day of life watching Gannon's track and field day, where he got 1st in every event.

Matthew was survived by his children (Brynn Kimberly, Tinley Jane, Brett Matthew, Gannon Rae), his parents (Brett and Kim Johanson), siblings (Paige Johanson, Brooke Johanson - Wagner, Kelly Johanson (Jordan Hanssen) and Lane Johanson. Nieces and nephews (Veda and Griffey Wagner and Trenton and Porter Wade. Grandmother, Helen Nass (Ron Hexum) Uncle Mike and Aunt Pam Nass, Aunt Marla and uncle Gary Lang, Aunt Deb Johanson, Aunt Jodi Johanson and many cousins.

Matthew was preceded in death by grandparents; Bob and Sally Johanson and Gary Nass. Aunts and uncles; Craig, Randy, Deb, and Kathy (Dietrich) Johanson.
