Dean Eric Johanson

Dean Eric Johanson, age 88, of Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 6, 2025, in Valparaiso, Indiana. He was born on February 22, 1937, in Gary, Indiana, to J. Martin and Anna (Nordin) Johanson.

Dean is survived by his daughters, Debra Ann (Brendan) Moran of Chicago, IL, Dawn Lynn Phillips of Portage, IN; son, Dean Martin (Annette) Johanson of Griffith, IN; granddaughter, Deanna Elizabeth Johanson of Griffith, IN and grandson, Connor Allen Phillips of Portage, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Eva (Eloff) Johanson; mother, Anna Maria Johanson; father, J. Martin Johanson; Brother, Glen Martin Johanson and son-in-law, Kyle Phillips.

Dean was a member of the Masons, Shriners Hospital and Scottish Rite. He was also a member of IBEW Local 697 (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) for 65 years. Dean loved spending time with family and holiday gatherings, taking care of his meticulous lawn, feeding the birds, tinkering in his garage and spending time at his cottage in Monon, IN. Dean would never turn down a good slice of pizza or a sweet treat. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

A Masonic ceremony will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
