Matthew J. McClellan

Matthew J. McClellan, 35, of Washington, IL and Keenesburg, CO died unexpectedly on January 13, 2026 in Denver, CO.

Matt was born in Winston-Salem, NC on April 12, 1990, the son of Michael and Shelli (Dankoff) McClellan. He was a 2008 graduate of Washington Community High School where he participated in football and was part of the 2008 4th place state basketball team.

He was working as an operator/groundman for PAR Electric out of the 111 IBEW Hall in Colorado.

Matt enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, casinos, was a diehard Steelers fan, and he would have adopted every stray animal if possible. He was a member of the IBEW and Ducks Unlimited.

He is survived by his mother, his brothers Scott (Veronica) McClellan of Plainfield, IL, Nick (Monica) McClellan, of Washington, IL, nieces Allison and Leila McClellan; his great-aunt and uncle, Jack and Jeri Greaf of Estero, FL, uncles and aunts, Dr. Joseph and Tracy Dankoff of Akron, OH, and Patrick and Becky McClellan of Winston-Salem, NC, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents, and his dog, Blaze.

There will be a private graveside service at Glendale Cemetery in Washington with a celebration of life at a future date. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family requests no flowers. If you desire, memorial donations can be made to TAPS, PAWS, or the OSF Cancer Institute (in memory of his father).
