Gary Travis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weber-Hurd Funeral Home on Jan. 2, 2026.
Gary A. Travis, 64 of Metamora, IL died on December 31st at Richard Owen Hospice Home peacefully, surrounded by his family after a quiet battle with cancer.
Gary was born in Peoria, IL on May 29th 1961 he was the son of Richard and Carol Travis. He graduated from Washington Community High School in 1979.
Gary was a jack of all trades and master of many. In his younger years he worked as a cook at several restaurants. He worked as a machinist for Bemis Bag Co. in Peoria, IL for nearly 20 years then became a maintenance worker at Snyder Village where he refurbished assisted living cottages and you could often find him fishing at the lake during his lunch break.
He loved the outdoors. His favorite way to spend time was hunting, fishing and camping. He loved rock and roll music, plants and flowers, collecting rocks and was an incredible cook. His pride and joy were his kids and grandkids. Gary was an old soul, tough as nails, selfless and truly one of a kind.
He is survived by his children, Janelle Mason of Washington, IL, Aaron Travis of Canton, IL, and Haley Travis of Metamora, IL; his grandchildren, Charlie, Colby and Callie; his brother, Donald Travis of Peru; and father, Richard Travis of Chillicothe. He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Carol Perkins Travis.
Per his wishes, cremation rights will be accorded, no funeral services will be held but a celebration of Gary's life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Richard Owen's Hospice Home. Arrangements are under the care of Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
