Matthew McCormack, beloved son of Robert and Sandi McCormack, passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2024. Born on June 8, 1978, Matt grew up in Eliot and attended Marshwood and St. Thomas Aquinas high schools. He earned an engineering degree from Virginia Tech and held a Professional Engineer's license in multiple states, including Florida, New Hampshire, and Maine. Matt was highly respected for his dedication and accomplishments as a civil engineer.
Matt had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying activities such as hunting, fishing, and off-road biking. He also loved soccer and baseball, both as a player and coach. A lifelong soccer enthusiast, he played from the age of four through high school, where his tenacity and resilience stood out despite often being smaller than his opponents. His love for sports extended to being an avid Red Sox fan, driving up from Florida to celebrate their World Series victory.
Matt was known for his kindness and willingness to lend a hand. He never hesitated to help others, especially his parents, whom he cared for by taking on tough tasks without being asked. He was fortunate to have true, lasting friendships.
Matt is survived by his sons, Brandon and Owen, and their mother, Megan, along with his parents, Robert and Sandi, and his brother Jon and his wife Theresa. He was immensely proud of his children and adored his nieces and nephews. He would have been overjoyed to watch them all grow into the remarkable individuals they are becoming.
Please honor Matt's memory by supporting your local food pantry or homeless shelter, and then by hugging your kids a little tighter.
A memorial visitation will take place at the Regatta Banquet Room, 28 Levesque Dr, Eliot, ME, 03903, on Thursday, September 12th, from 4-6p. To leave online condolences please visit www.jspelkeyfuneralhome.com. Care for the McCormack family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey & Son Funeral Home.
