Matthew "Matt" Moomey, 54, of Ankeny, Iowa, sadly passed away on October 17, 2025. Born October 2, 1971, in Landstuhl, Germany, he had recently celebrated his 54th birthday.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Lutheran Church of Hope in Ankeny (520 NW 36th St). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, also at the church.

Matt grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and moved with his family to Mason City in 1988, during his sophomore year of high school, where he met his lifelong friend group-the MCDB. He earned a business degree from William Penn University. Professionally, Matt spent more than twenty years with Principal Financial Group until recently beginning a new chapter with HealthMarkets.

He married the love of his life, Lori, on December 12, 2023, and together they built a beautiful life and home in Ankeny. He adored his daughter, Emma, and was endlessly proud of the young woman she has become. He held his daughter, Erin, close in his heart; though she went ahead of him, her light shaped his compassion, joy, and the way he loved others. Matt was a loving, patient, and supportive step dad ("bonus" as he preferred to be called) to Dominic and Gabby, he was always there for them. He worked hard to build that relationship with them and loved them as his own from day one. He was also very much another dad to countless young women over the years through his coaching soccer and basketball, shuttling to religion and dance classes, cheering at every competition, and embracing his role as the ultimate dance dad. Matt took on his role as a "girl dad" with pride.

He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan who was "forced" to love the Cyclones, too, in a house divided. He selflessly spent time in Ames-and on the road for away games-cheering on the Cyclones with his wife and friends. He loved live music, and going to concerts with friends was one of his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed playing trivia and debating which music genre was best. Matt will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and loving spirit. He treasured time with the "MCDB", the pack and a lb" friend group, his family, and countless friends who were lucky enough to know him.

Matt is survived by his wife, Lori; children, Emma of Tempe, AZ, Dominic of Ankeny, IA, and Gabby of Ankeny, IA; parents, Ken and Dana Moomey of Ankeny, IA; brother, Marcus (Kristin) Moomey of St. Louis, MO; nieces, Ella and Frances Moomey; and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; and his daughter, Erin Moomey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Sparkle Run-the charity established in his daughter's honor-would be appreciated. @sparklerun on Venmo or sparklerun.org
