Matthew Creasy Newbill, born on December 25, 1958, in Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Hendersonville, Tennessee on August 9, 2025. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
A proud graduate of Bearden High School in Knoxville in 1976, Matt continued his education at Freed Hardeman University, graduating in 1980, and subsequently earned an MBA from Belmont University. His extensive knowledge and passion for helping others characterized his tenure in the healthcare field, dedicating over 35 years of his professional life to healthcare administration.
Matt was not only known for his professional accomplishments but also for his vibrant personality. He was renowned for his humor, deep love for people, and ability to foster connections through practical jokes and shared laughter. He was always ready to embrace life with open arms. His love for the arts was evident in his various hobbies, including singing, acting in plays, and playing the piano. Matthew’s versatility in his gifts allowed him to express himself creatively, bringing joy to those around him.
A lifelong supporter of the Tennessee Volunteers, Matt's fervor for his team was matched only by his dedication to his community and his church. As a longtime member of Community Church in Hendersonville, he found fulfillment in singing and leading worship, as well as serving in various leadership roles, further exemplifying his commitment to both faith and fellowship.
Matthew is survived by his wife of 43 years, Terry Nixon Newbill; their son, Britten Newbill, who is married to Emilie Rose, and daughter, Hannah Newbill; and their beloved granddaughter, Lumie Love Rose. He is also survived by his brother, Mike Newbill, and his wife, Rosemary, in addition to four nieces and one nephew who will fondly remember him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lemial James Newbill and Clara Frances Creasy Newbill. Matt's charisma and the deep love he had for his family and friends will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Matt's Life will be held 5:00 P.M., Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Community Church in Hendersonville with his dear friend and longtime pastor Doug Varnado officiating. All are welcome to come and honor a remarkable man who touched so many lives. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 P.M.
