Matthew Caleb Peterson, the son of Lyle and Sue (DeBoer) Peterson, was born November 7, 1978, in Lincoln, NE. His childhood years were spent in Lincoln where he attended school. His family moved to Cherokee, IA, in 1994, where he graduated from Washington High School in 1997.
Matt worked at Fareway all through high school and continued to do so after graduating. He was transferred to Indianola, IA and eventually Muscatine, IA. Matt then had a career change which brought him to Butte, Montana, where he worked for the Bureau of Land Management. He later moved back to Cherokee and worked for the Cherokee County Conservation. Most recently, Matt had lived in Iowa
Falls, IA, where he worked for Quality Ag.
Matt enjoyed the outdoors, everything from camping, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. He loved Cherokee County and the beauty of the land. He was a history buff that studied and knew just about everything about the County. Matt also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and friends. More than anything, Matt loved the time spent with his son Jonny.
On Sunday, August 13, 2023, Matt passed away at his home in Iowa Falls, IA, at the age of 44. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jerry and Carol Leach, and Charles and Viola Peterson; and one uncle, Bob Schulenberg.
He will lovingly be remembered by his son, Jonny Peterson; parents, Lyle and Sue Peterson of Paullina, IA; sisters, Tina Peterson of Omaha, NE and Tara (Nate) Duncan of Worthing, SD; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
