Matthew William Powell

Matthew William Powell, aged 19, passed away on February 24, 2026. He was born on May 10, 2006, in Morgantown, WV.

A beloved son, brother, and friend, Matthew was known for his integrity, humour, and compassion. Matthew was a 2024 graduate of University High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and track team. He was a sophomore psychology major at WVU. Matthew loved WVU sports, working out, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William K. and Joyce Miller. He is survived by his parents, Matt and Laura, and sister, Megan. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Rodney and Kathy Powell, and his aunt Angela (John) Durig, uncle Mark (Courtney) Powell, and cousins Brayden and Brynley Powell

Family and friends are invited to gather at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, 10 S. High St., Morgantown, WV 26501, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm, and again on Wednesday from 1 pm until the time of the funeral service at 2 pm with Pastor Brian Knight officiating. Following the funeral service, Matthew will be laid to rest at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
