Matthew "Matt Matt" Devon Isaiah Rackley, 17, of Athens, TN, was tragically taken from us far too soon on August 6, 2025.
Born on March 7, 2008, to his loving mother, Kristyn Rackley-Byas, Matt was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew him. He was the heart of his family, always full of energy, laughter, and love. With a quick wit and an infectious sense of humor, Matt had a special gift for making others smile. You'd be hard-pressed to find a photo of him without a goofy grin or a silly face.
Matt had a deep love for basketball and video games, especially GTA and NBA 2K25, and he enjoyed spending time outdoors, hiking with his family and fishing with his beloved Papaw. He was also incredibly driven and hardworking beyond his years. Through determination and grit, he saved up to buy his own car, taking great pride in learning how to fix it up himself. Whether watching YouTube tutorials or searching through junkyards for parts, he poured his heart into every detail. Some of his favorite moments were simply spent sitting in that car, music playing, enjoying the peace.
But more than anything, Matt loved being with his family. His presence brought warmth and joy, and his absence leaves a hole that can never be filled. He was deeply loved, and he will be forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Preceded in death by his brother, Elijah Joseph Rackley; uncle, Chris Rackley; and aunt, Laurel Elizabeth Anders.
Survivors include his mother, Kristyn Rackley-Byas (Trey); father, Timothy Markwell; brothers, LeDavion Bell, DeMaurion Bell, Daniel Bell and Zane Byas; sister, Kaliegh Crowe; grandparents, Bobby and Susan Anders; aunts, Quinn Jarrett and Margaret Williams (Marquez); LOTS of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved family and friends.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 from 11:00am - 1:00pm at Companion Funeral Home of Athens. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
