Matthew M. Schimony Jr.

Matthew M Schimony Jr., of Philadelphia passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2026 at the age of 79.

Matthew was born to the late Matthew and Mary Schimony and grew up in the Swamppoodle neighborhood of Philadelphia which was Home to Connie Mac Stadium. Living across the street from the baseball stadium gave Matt his great love of the game (where he and his sister Carol would sneak in after the seventh inning and scout for players to get their autographs after the game). What wonderful memories they shared of those days.

Matthew served for four years in the army during the Vietnam war era where he served as a radio telephone operator, (RTO) ensuring communication between ground troops and commanding officers. RTO's were essential to survival of the troops because they were the link to,artillery , Medevac , helicopters and supplies for the troops. After the military Matt was very involved with AMVETS (American Veterans) serving as a commander of a local post. Matt 's early career was in the insurance industry and he spent the last 20 + years working at the Pro desk at Home Depot where he made great friends like Marcianna and Ed.

In 1995 he met and fell in love with Joan Colwell and they had a 29 year lasting love story. They enjoyed weekends in Lancaster, doo-wop shows and everything rock 'n' roll. The term "oldies but goodies" definitely applied to Matt and Joan.

Matthew is survived by his sister Carol Musloski, stepdaughter's Joanne (Thomas)

Spoltore, Gail (Steven) Schroeder, and Lori (Reinhard) Naussner and daughter-in-law, Linda Colwell. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Matt, you will be missed. Who will text us good morning every day?? Thank you for the happy memories we share.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend an interment on Friday April 3, 2026 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Attendees should plan on arriving at 9:45am to assemble at the Administration Building; the interment will take place promptly at 10:00am. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph A Fluehr III Funeral Home, Richboro, P.A.
