Matthew Dorie "Matt" Sickels

Matthew "Matt" Dorie Sickels, age 47, of Albia, IA, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at his home.
Matt was born on December 3, 1977, in Albia, to Ronald and Mickie (Graham) Sickels. He grew up attending school and graduated from Woodland Park High School in Colorado with the class of 1996. On June 30, 2017, he was united in marriage to Melinda Lynn Jacobson at the Albia Reservoir.
Matt was a welder for Johnson Machine Works in Chariton, IA, for 21 years and later worked in the meat department at Hy-Vee in Albia.
Matt was a sports fan who enjoyed playing slow pitch softball and bowling in leagues. He loved coaching youth sports. He was extremely generous, always willing to help anyone in need. Matt was a loving husband, son, brother, nephew, and friend. His most treasured role in life was being an uncle. He adored his nieces and nephews and was known by not only them, but by everyone, as Uncle Matt.
Matt is survived by his wife, Melinda; his mother, Mickie Sickels; a brother, Steve Sickels; 2 sisters, Sara Persons and Raegan (Tom) Birchmier; a sister-in-law, Melissa (Wade) Stiers; his nieces and nephews, Zachary (Laurel) Sickels-Hughes, Kendall Sickels, Elliott Sickels, Brandon (Mia) Persons, Madalyn (Sam) Dunbar, Joseph Birchmier, Christopher Kilfoyle, Ryleigh Birchmier, Kyla Stiers, Alyssa Stiers, and Adam Stiers. Matt is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and good friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ronald Sickels; and his grandparents, Melvin and Mildred Sickels, Dean Graham, and Imogene Barnhart.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Matt's family present to greet family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Rayl Robbins officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
An open memorial has been established to the family.
