Matthew Wyatt Smith passed away July 4, 2025 at the age of 44. This is fitting since he loved fireworks and putting on displays for family and friends. Matt was born February 25, 1981 in Warren, Michigan and lived a full life in his 44 years. He is the beloved son of Linda Smith of Warren and John Wyatt Smith (Regina Rizk-Smith, M.D.) of Novi; he is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He graduated from Michigan Technological University in 2015 with degrees in civil engineering and survey engineering and was immediately hired by Nowak and Fraus Engineering, where he went on to do the work he loved as a surveying engineer. Matt loved music and concerts and traveled throughout the United States to see his favorite bands, which included Metallica and Nine Inch Nails. He had many favorite local bands as well. He loved his family and friends and would help anyone in any way possible: from helping his Dad put the boat dock in every year to taking his Mom to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra every Christmas for the last 15 years. He carried a key tag that said "May you be proud of the work you do, the person you are, and the difference you make." He loved his home in Sterling Heights and he loved his dogs, Reznor and Roxy, so much. There are no words to describe how much he will be missed. Memorial visitation from 4-8pm on Wednesday, July 16th at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile), Sterling Heights. Memorial contributions to the Michigan Humane Society are appreciated. Please share memories with the family at their online guestbook at WujekCalcaterra.com
