In Loving Memory of Matthew David Vinson
April 23,1994 - June 12, 2025
Matt Vinson, a young man who's faith gave him a peace that surpassed all understanding passed away at the age of 31 on June 12, 2025 within his home and the loving arms of his mom.
Matt grew up on five different Air Force bases residing in California, Germany, Colorado, Hawaii and South Dakota. At every stop, he was loved by his teachers and peers, undoubtedly shaping him into who he'd become. From the time he could hold something there was always a ball in his hands. In youth sports, he was a standout in baseball, basketball and flag football always moving up a year early to play with his older brother, Mack. He earned All Conference honors in basketball while at Douglas HS (Box Elder, SD) and as a Junior he began his tackle football career as the starting Quarterback. Quickly, football became #1! Matt went on to play QB at Chadron State College (Chadron, NE) for 5 seasons, where he established lifelong friendships and his love for studying football. As a Junior at CSC, Matt led the Eagles to a dramatic 37-33 comeback win in his hometown of Rapid City, SD against SD Mines. He recorded 330 passing yards and 5 touchdowns in front of family and friends. He finished his
college career with a final season at West Virginia Wesleyan.
Matt began a career as a Strength and Conditioning coach in his hometown of Box Elder, SD and continued in Highlands Ranch, CO alongside his uncle Seth. In 2020, Matt was recruited as QB coach at Tanque Verde HS (Tucson, AZ) by head coach Jay Dobyns, accompanied by his college roommate and best friend, Jack Dobyns. Matt went on as a QB coach for three seasons at Odessa HS (Odessa, TX), where he also coached track and field and powerlifting. In 2023, as the Co-Offensive Coordinator and QB Coach, Matt helped lead the Bronchos to an overtime win against rival Permian HS. Matt coached his final season at Creekview HS (Carrollton, TX) as the Offensive Coordinator, helping to take the Mustangs from two winless seasons to a victorious 8-3 season. He also got the privilege of coaching Softball for the first time. He was thankful and blessed to live out his dreams coaching in the powerhouse of Texas HS football.
Matt lived his life and inspired many with a simple message. Be > Yesterday.
Matt will be cherished by his loving parents, Skip and Angie Vinson, his siblings, Mack, Noah and Sarah and his nephew, Oliver. His memory will also be cherished by his grandparents, Ron Spencer and Judy and Dennis Goossens, his uncle and aunt, Seth and Cricket Vinson as well as countless extended family members, coaches, athletes and students whose lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by grandparents, Judy Near and Wyman Vinson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025 from 5-7pm at the Creekview HS gymnasium, 3201 Old Denton Rd, Carrollton, TX 75007.
